It is actually possible and easier to study Biology for NEET without coaching than it sounds. The only thing you need to be aware of is not to be a passive reader, but rather to be an active learner while reading NCERT and try to extract data for potential questions:
Just brush up on the whole Bio NCERT, and instead of reading passively, try to understand just the context of each chapter, what it is about, what the definition is, the exceptions, the diagram labels, mark PYQs from those chapters along with those lines or sections that you think can be converted into questions.
Go through the whole NCERT again, chapter by chapter, and make sure you mark more potential questions again. Memorise every line that was marked in the first reading and watch crash courses/lectures alongside for each chapter to strengthen your knowledge depth. Now, you keep doing this over and over and try to memorise every potential question from the previously marked reading. Highlight often forgotten concepts, annotate exceptions, years, scientific names, or common mistakes to make your reading more personalized and useful for the next revision.
Whenever you’re studying a new chapter or a new topic, link difficult, hard-to-remember terms with certain images or stories to memorise them quickly and retain the information for a long time. For example, instead of memorising the three types of Phyllotaxy in plain definitions, visualise leaves taking turns on a staircase, like humans for “Alternate” and two leaves facing each other like two friends for “Opposite”. For “Whorled”, imagine many leaves surrounding each other like a group hug.
Create small flashcards for definitions that you find hard to understand or remember: write the term on one side and the definition on the other. Now, revise these flashcards at intervals, like after 3 days, 7 days, and 21 days. This way, you will never forget those definitions again.
Instead of remembering a long list of unrelated information, which feels hard to memorise, divide and group them based on common connections. This makes memorisation way quicker and easier. For example, in Plant Tissues, instead of memorising all tissues together, group like this:
